One of the purported uses of "Word Clouds" in Tableau 8 is to visualise responses say, from free text fields in surveys. A number of Tableau demo videos I've seen have alluded to this or indicated it as an application but provided no further instructions.
Is this something that can be implemented using a calculated field or does the data need to be manipulated before you can create it?
My data consists of a row for each survey respondent with one field that is a free text response to the question. There are additional columns with demographic data and dimensions.
It has been my experience that word fields need to be preprocessed prior to importing into Tableau. If you parse your words into one word per row then T does a word cloud as you might expect. If you give T long strings in a single cell (field) then T won't give you the sort of word cloud viz you are expecting.
