Are they real times, or string representations of time?
Does the icon for the dimension have a calendar symbol next to it?
Thanks for the response.
They are real times in Date-Time format. The datasource is excel. I am able to add the time values in excel but not in Tableau.
What is the date associated with them (all datetimes will have a day component, even if it's 0)
Try int([your date field]) and see what you end up with.
Either way, you'll be able to use a calculation like:
datetime(sum(float([Your Date Field])))
Unfortunately if the sum exceeds 24 hours the formatting is going to be odd (it will turn into a real date). You may have to do some string work to fix it.
I think I was wrong previously.
There is no date part attached to it in the datasource level.Tableau takes my "Duration" dimension as a "string".
I have comverted it as Date & Time dimension in Tableau.
The formula which you gave, gives me a date time value .How do I add it to get the total duration?
PLease find the attached sample dataset. I hope it is more clear.

Thanks so much Alex!!! That helped a lot!!!
But one of my user's exceeded 24hrs time limit Tableau is showing 10hrs instead of 34hrs!!!
If there is any workaround for this it would be great!!!
