Same here. I tend to avoid using that particular collapse/show 'trick' because it has knock on effects to performance.
Is there not a way for the map to be shown just once and the measure that is being displayed be changed depending on the parameter using a calculated field? (I appreciate your example is probably a trivialised version of the specific problem you're having)
This is currently an issue that is being worked on and is scheduled to be released with 8.0.1.
I tend to go between a single map and other chart types. When another chart type is chosen, it has less real estate to display.
This has been the trick I've used for quite some time to collapse/show worksheets on the dash. What method do you use? If it increases performance, I'd like to learn to incorporate that into my vizzes.
