How can I filter a scatterplot to show values on a map?

    James Prettyman

I'm a new user to Tableau, and I'm trying to use it to interrogate a data set by investigating whether outliers on a scatter plot have a geographic dimension to them.  I would like to be able to select a data point in the scatter plot, and have the resulting data point highlighted or filtered on a map within the dashboard.  This seems pretty basic, but I'm struggling to get the action filter to work and the knowledge base hasn't thrown up a solution.  I feel I must be making some kind of simple error; can anyone put me straight?

A simplified version of my problem is attached.  The only difference from standard Tableau 8.0 in my file is that I am using a custom geocoding mapping to plot full-length UK postcodes.
