I'm not sure how you could do that in a tooltip, there doesn't seem to be any control of that aggregation. The only workaround I can think of is to have a separate worksheet on a dashboard with a Filter Action on Select, I set one up in the attached.
Thanks Jonathan, it's surprising we can't control that, I'd rather have no aggregation appear in the tooltip than one that doesn't make sense, such as a sum of percents.
Also, I didn't mean to give you a table calc challenge, my data is pre-aggregated, so a normal average in the filtered target sheet would suffice, as seen below and attached.
At this point in my evolution with Tableau, table calcs like that one aren't a challenge.
In any case, yes, it is an odd thing for the tooltip to always use SUM(), the same goes for the SUM() aggregation in the status bar. I poked around to see if there was any way to control that one and couldn't find that either.
Jonathan...curious to know if you ever jump in the Delorian and go back in time to read old responses? I find it to be rather fulfilling to see people's answers from 4-5 years ago when, while your knowledge was far more than most, it wasn't what it is today...and the options were far more limited back in the day. I still don't know of a way to get tool tips to aggregate for multiple selections, but controlling the aggregation in the tooltip is at least a simple chore now. Cheers Good Sir! Love your work and what you give back to the community. See you in Vegas I hope!
