Yes, even after upgrading your version from Tableau 7 to 8 all the existing workbooks published to server with version 7 still works with 8. There has to be a way using which all the workbooks of version 7 can be upgraded to 8 instead of opening individual one's in 8 for upgrdation of which I'm not aware. Hope this helps you in clarifying your query.
Thanks for your reply, that tooks me one step further.
Tableau Server 8 is now running.
Has anyone tried publishing workbooks developed in Desktop 8 to Tableau Server 7? Curious if this works at all or if it works but only if certain features are avoided?
Tableau Server and Desktop must be using the same major version in order to publish to Server. You cannot publish a Desktop 8 workbook to Server 7 (or a Desktop 7 workbook to Server 8). Doing so will yield a message similar to: "Cannot connect to Tableau Server. Please check the server name and port and try again." Clicking the Show Details button indicates the following: "You are using Desktop version: 8.0 and Server version: 7.0. To upgrade to compatible versions of Desktop and Server please contact Tableau Customer Service at firstname.lastname@example.org or call (206) 633-3400 x3."
I am publishing report from Desktop 7 to server 8 , it easily published and works but I have very bad performance issue , its running almost in half hour , is it version issue ???
