Currently, there is no supported way to kill the refresh. However, some customers have done this by right clicking on the backgrounder task to stop it. It can also be cancelled on the database side.

What do you exactly mean by right clicking on backgrounder task? How could I do that?

I can't believe that in the 6 years since this was originally posted, the best answer is "Kill Tableau".
You would think this would be easier.

Afte so many years still no response or action available, this is the reason not belive in tableau every time out of the box thinking is needed.
Far from true analytical solution.
