Looks like I can get to a pseudo-workaround by creating separate select filter actions - each one filtering one attribute at a time. For the example above, I created an item select filter action and a location select filter action from the same source going to the same destination. With this in place, I get both filters working.
However, I'm dealing with a scatter plot and I don't want to immediately jump to the high level view all the time as soon as I select. Sometimes I want to zoom in and other times I want to keep or exclude items, so I am looking for a menu filter action that would do the same. Not looking possible.
Next workaround is to create a combo attribute in the SSAS Tabular model under the covers where I combine item and location into one attribute. That way I have one filter instead of two. What happens when I have three to filter? I'll cross that bridge when I get there. OLAP cubes + Tableau = Some Limitations
There are some limitations to working with cubes. Here is a KB article that addresses some of these if you have not already seen it:
I am having the same issue. For example, on one dashboard, i want to support use an action filter from report 1 to report 2, and then i want an action filter from report 2 to go to another dashboard, keeping both the action filter from report 1 and the selected row as a filter from report 2. Is there a work-around to support this activity?
The link Tracy provided just says this:
When connected to Microsoft Analysis Services, drill-down actions defined in the cube are not available in Tableau.
Not relevant: You can create more and better actions in Tableau using the Tableau actions feature.
but not how...
Cube actions are a completely different animal than Tableau actions. They are not relevant to this issue.
I am in a similar situation trying to use multiple dimensions in an action filter and it isn't working - tried separate action filters too !c l Any help would be appreciated .....
