The whole site is broken with IE. I'm havering to post this from Safari on my phone because I can't login from IE.
"I don't normally test my code, but when I do, I do it in production."
The front page also looks awful in IE8.
That was my first thought when I saw the orange rectangle too. I was on the forums when the site changed and the first thing I saw was the orange rectangle pop up right under my login name and thought, "Surely they know I've been using Tableau for a while...")
All the above, I agree. Home page, when hovering on the language drop-down box, shows some invalid characters as shown in this screen shot. Also, what's up with the single characters in the lower left corner of the grey boxes? Single letter "s" on the right in the search box.
IE8, Compatibility Mode is off.
+1 for removing the FREE TRIAL button for logged in users - we will find it if needed under the Products menu
Here's another issue...count the fonts - this is from Chrome (latest version) on XP:
I can count 10:
- Logo - Tableau name
- Logo - software
- Menu bar, FREE TRIAL (same font, different colors)
- Welcome, [user] message
- My Content/Notifications
- Forums tag
- "Type to filter by text", Sort by latest activity (same font, different colors)
- Filter by tag button, page 1/2 (different colors)
- Thread list headings
- Thread title
- Author/views/latest activity section
- sidebars, footer, etc.
I realize that there's the website framework around Jive, and that just seems like way too many fonts.
JD, to be fair, the tableau logo/softare is an image. I'm not an expert web site builder (but I played one on my server, LOL), but the font variety shouldn't matter. I agree that there's some visual over-load which is totally counter-Tableau with what we've been taught under current viz mind-share.
Issues with the Mission side of the site, http://mission.tableausoftware.com/. First, site will not work in IE8 Compatibility Mode. Scroll bars difficult to see (I actually happened upon them by accident when scrolling the page). The right image in the "Breakthrough after breakthrough" is too far to the right and thus is missing about a 1/5th(?) of the image.
I like the Leadership page, how clicking on a person gives more info. http://www.tableausoftware.com/about/leadership
The Careers page is nice but the T-shirts image is clipped.
There's a lot more to see at Tableau and the creativity is definitely flowing and looking good. I know it's a big undertaking for the dev team. Just need to add a new coffee drip to the QA guys -- being in the great Pacific northwest I know we have awesome coffee and teas...and micro-brews... My wife is a server QA person for a major chip manufacturer (her job description from 30,000 feet ) so I understand the pressure they are under. Overall, keep up the good work.
Seriously guys, this is gold. Thank you for pointing these things out and for including browser type as well as if it's on the main website or specific to Community pages.
Right now we're triaging functionality bugs (i.e. things that are broken or look totally out of whack) as our highest priority.
Having said that, the comments about fonts and the Free Trial button are also getting captured and suggestions like "Free Trial box should disappear when I login" are awesome. Tell us what you don't like and then tell us what you think a reasonable solution/outcome would be.
I can't paste anything into responses on the forums when using IE8, the page locks up.
