Okay, I'm been doing my homework in prep for tomorrow's TDT on domain padding and I gotta say...I'm a little scared. This feels a little bit like that scene in the Matrix where Morpheus is all "if you take the red pill, I show you how far down the rabbit-hole goes."
Some light reading I've been doing:
- Domain Padding (via Jonathan Drummey's Drawing with Numbers)
- Jonathan and Richard on "counting distinct users on a running period"
- Epic thread in the 8.0 Beta forum where we see Joe bring in the term densification (if you're not in the Beta program and want to be, email me and I'll put you in touch with your account manager)
Joe could you post that "Data Densification.txt" file you were referring to in your webinar.
You did an excellent job of explaining this difficult to grasp topic. Thanks for that.
Anyone interested in how to use date fields to their full potential, should definitely watch this webinar. While it's generally about data densification, it's mostly about date padding and completion, and how to gain control over your date data, including generating a scaffold for doing forecasting.
Joe, if you should come back it would be great if you could post your notes (order of operations) that you gave us a glimpse of at time marker 29:00 in the video.
It would be nice if Tableau had documentation for advanced users such as this.
