Hiding Measures Based on Parameter Selections

    Jason Krantz

I am trying to limit the measure names that appear in a quick filter. I see a number of posts in the ideas section that request this type of functionality, specifically http://community.tableau.com/ideas/1274. I too want to make a very select number of measures available to the end user, but hiding the measures does not work since the workbook is huge and the measures in question are used in other sheets in the workbook.

http://community.tableau.com/message/194406 does exactly what I am looking for. Unfortunately, per the thread at http://community.tableau.com/thread/122995 it appears that I cannot dynamically change the measure/column name based on the selected parameter. This is my attempt to work around that issue.

The attached workbook contains a sample of my efforts so far. I have it where the numbers are disappearing based on the parameters that are selected, but what I want now is for the parameters with “No” selected to disappear completely from the report. In this example I have selected “No” for “Show Qty Non-Comp?” and no values show up, but there is still a placeholder in the report. My difficulty lies in getting the “Show Selected Metrics” dimension to properly reflect my parameter selections.

Any help with this would be appreciated. Thanks!
