Thank you for responding to my issue. However, I can't seem to access the Tableau workbook from the link. is there something I am missing?
After spending sometime on the worksheet, I am trying to figure out how it can fit to take me to my goal. I am trying to reverse engineer process and trying to understand the concept and am finding it a little challenging.
From what I understand (please correct me):
1. Created a Parameter for the various breakdowns like day, week, month, year etc.
2. Created a calc. field named "States by Period". Can you please explain the use of the datepart for time, month and year vs. datetrunc used for week and day?
3. Finally, I don't see the use of States by period in your workbook. You seem to be using only Date in your filters. How are these connected with the scheme of things to get the desired result.
Thank you very much. best
Not sure if you are still looking for this, but I was just looking to do the same thing and found a website that shows you. http://maassmedia.com/blog/tableau-tips-how-to-show-customized-monthly-weekly-and-daily-views-dynamically-in-your-dashboards/
This gives you instructions on how to create a parameter that shows days, weeks, months for date dimensions.
