Strings in Level of Detail for Time Series Line Chart

I've hit a problem, which I'm wondering if anyone's come across.

I am creating a simple line chart across a time series. It happens to be a series of league positions over the course of a season. I then want the Tooltip to show the details of a given match at each point in the line chart. This works fine for numeric fields but as soon as I drag a string such as 'Opponents' onto Level of Detail, the line chart changes to a mess of zig zags?

Is this some form of known behaviour. Or even better does someone have a suggested solution.

PS I have now added the TWBX. If you drag the Opponents Dimension on to the level of detail you will see the point I am making.

Chris,

Likely there's a way to do what you want. Would you be able to post a packaged workbook containing what you're working with? This should speed up the ability to get a quality answer because it would prevent folks from having to recreate what they think you might have set up.

Chris,

Once you have Opponents on the Level of Detail shelf, right click on the Opponents pill and change it from a Dimension to an Attribute. This will switch back to the line chart you were viewing before adding Opponents to the LoD shelf, and you can then add the field to your tooltip to get it to show up there.
