I want all of those 16 Domains (EPS, Market Share, ... etc) to be displayed under the Dimensions.
Morning Richard. Where's that csv file coming from? You say "my 16 dims are being loaded..." loaded from where?
All 16 doms are being loaded under the dimension 'Element'.
I want to be able to display more than one of the domains at a time, in a time series graph by year.
If I simply Filter the Elements, I can display individual dimensions such as only EPS or only EBITDA%.
However, if I wanted to show a multiple line graph with Sales and EPS, I cannot do this by simply using the filter function. Sales and EPS would have to be separate dimensions.
So Richard, I'm still a bit confused. Your dimensions are being all loaded as 'Elements' because that is the structure of you data. Every column in a spreadsheet becomes either a dimension or a measure in Tableau. If you want each of the 16 dimensions to show as separate dimensions, then you'll need to give each of them their own column in your spread sheet and put the corresponding data below it.
Having said that, there is a lot you can do with your data the way it is. You can change the single select filter to a multiple select filter and then turn them all on, and you'll get all your dimensions as lines on a single chart. You'll have some labeling and scale issues that will need to be worked out, and this may turn out to be more hassle than re-shaping your data the way you want.
So it seems you have two choices: 1-Reshape your data 2-Learn the 'work-arounds' to deal with the data the way it is.
If you choose #2 let me know and I can help you work things out. It may not be possible to do everything you want but we can accomplish a lot. Hope this helps.
