If the data is filtered to that state with a quick filter, then Tableau should redraw the map - see example here:
Choose the tracks tab if it isn't already selected.

if the map doesn't zoom as the example alex gave you, i'd bet $10 that you've inadvertently fixed the axes. Hover over the map and check out the zoom controls in the top left of the map. Is the pin at the bottom blue? If so, that means you've fixed the axes. Click on the blue pin and it will unfix the axes. Now, when you filter, the map will zoom automatically
Did that fix your problem?
Yes, sorry, meant to get back here sooner. I had flipped that switch off and did not realize that when I was moving the map without zooming I was flipping it back on. So, yes, that does work. Thanks.
Is there a way to easily center the map on the continental US? I have a few outlying data points in US territories that I guess are causing the display all areas that have data, which puts the US over to the far right.

Pop Longitude on the filter, and restrict it to the US (-60 to -125ish) - the map will still zoom, but you won't see any of the other places. You could also filter these places out.
Great tip! Thanks.
Andy - Thank you, thank you. What a simple fix for "zoom in" on maps wit the pin/unpin function! Where do I send the $10?
Question, on my dashboard, I have two maps. The U.S. map filters to the state map. But the pin (on the state map) keeps pinning itself on that specific state when I start exploring it. When I go to the U.S. map to filter for a new state, the previous filtered state map is "pinned" and won't allow for the new state to be viewed. I have to go back and unpin it. How do I keep it unpinned so that I can explore other states? thanks.
I need help with a similar problem.
I have a dashboard with 2 maps, one with states which acts as a filter and an other one which shows the cities of the selected state.
What I want to create is a filter that automatically zooms into a selected state if chosen.
If I choose Massachusetts on the 1st map, then I would like the 2nd map to show me only Massachusetts with its cities
If I choose Nevada on the 1st map, then I would like the 2nd map to show me only Nevada with its cities.
I believe there is a simple solution, which I need to find. Hope you can help.
Was able to find the solution :-)
could you please describe which solution you found?
I have the same request with you~
Could you please share your solution with me?
Thanks a lot !
Thank you very much! I have another question though, the thing is, after I filter something and the automatic zoom kicks in, if I want to navigate the map and make a manual zoom within that area, the axes get fixed again, how can i prevent that from happening?
