I am having similar problems with loading maps. I was just embarrassed in a live GoToMeeting because it took forever to load. I had to cancel and reschedule. I need to know whether it is a problem with maps or a more general problem with my workbook. Whatever it is, many of my worksheets will not load.
I am having issues too...the desktop tool would not display map. In knowledgebase it says the map URLs are:
Tried opening them in browser and did not work either. So, I pinged the mapvisual2 URL...here is what came back:

So, I checked the AWS Status and found that they have several troublespots, including AWS Elastic Beanstalk (N. Virginia) where they are reporting API failures and elevated delay times.
Therefore, I am concluding that AWS is causing the issue...but I would appreciate a response from Tableau support to confirm and if there is any ETA for resolution.

Thanks. that is helpful. When I switch to offline maps, does it still try to get them? It has not speeded up even though I changed to offline maps.
Going offline has not helped us...still not rendering.

Any update on this? Like a previous commentor mentioned, going offline still doesn't help - the mapping won't render, regardless. It also slows Tableau WAY down while it's attempting to render. Any insight into a timeline for the fix would be greatly appreciated.
