The default for worker0.gateway.port is "80". Do you have an application on your laptop (IIS, Skype, etc.) that may have grabbed port 80 between the time you uninstalled and re-installed?
No, I didn't install anything since...the funny thing is that I am trying to install it on a brand new box and I am still getting the "worker xxx.xxx.xxx.xx is not responding" error....what could be causing this?
It generally is one of two things:
- (More likely) another application / program camping the port (80) that the gateway needs
- "Strangeness" (less often)
A couple of times when I've installed, I've bumped into your error message and simply resolved the issue by re-booting and trying again ("Strangeness" - whatever was holding on to port 80 cleared).
A couple of suggestions:
- Use the Windows commandline tool "netstat" to figure out what app is listening to port 80. Execute "netstat -ano" and then scan the results to see what is sitting on x.x.x.x:80 . Get the PID (process ID) for that thing then use Task Manager to determine what process / application the PID belongs to.
- When configuring Tableau Server, tell it to listen on a different port. It defaults to 80, but it's fairly common to put it on 81, 8080, etc...
