Thanks to those who came to our August ATUG meeting 2 weeks ago. For those who were not present, you can work on the hands-on dashboard building activity by creating your best dashboard out of two Excel files -- College Rankings.xlsx (http://community.tableau.com/docs/DOC-1131) and NCAA Polling Data.xlsx (http://community.tableau.com/docs/DOC-1132). Blending of datasets is possible.
At the meeting we also heard from two Norfolk Southern employees new to Tableau who demoed a collaborated workbook/dashboard they created in about 2 days (workbook here - http://community.tableau.com/docs/DOC-1133). On Monday, they went through the Tableau on-line tutorials, on Tuesday they were given the two Excel files mentioned above. On Thursday morning they created the attached Tableau Dashboard Building Exercise packaged workbook. It just goes to show that creating useful dashboards are possible within a short period of time as well as the quality of the on-line tutorials to help users get started.
At the end of the session I also demoed a workbook that I created (http://community.tableau.com/docs/DOC-1134). This workbook was created over a period of 2 days. The Conference Dashboard is what I focused on for the meeting. I kept a second dashboard and some unused worksheets that I used to test and play around with functionality; however, these weren't quite ready for prime time, but were only touched on when someone at the meeting inquired about them.
I hope you can find some useful dashboard building and querying techniques from the these workbooks.
Please join us for our next ATUG meeting on Thursday, September 20 from 1-4PM at the Norfolk Southern building on Peachtree Street in mid-town Atlanta.
