I've never understood this either - I see it all the time - if you let a complex query run for a while then decide to cancel it, it can take minutes to cancel. Sometimes it's better just to kill the Tableau process.
I've also seen this behavior. If you are using a context filter, I suppose it may be unwinding the build of a temp table.
Not in my instance - I very rarely have the need for context filters.
