The text editor seems like a good solution. Another possibility to find out the original name of a specific field is to right click on the field and select Describe... Next to Remote Column, you will be able to see the original name of the column.
Another option, to see the original names of all the columns (but not to see their new names) is to edit the data connection and click to View the data.
This might be a good one to add to the Ideas section--having a centralized place within Tableau to see all aliases/name changes.

Thank you Tracy. The "Describe" option is the one i missed. Much faster than opening the .twb in a text editor, for sure.
I've taken your advice and submitted an idea re having an option to list all field names alongside their underlying data source field names.
