1. Re: How do I color code a set of trips by time in a bar graph?
Shawn Wallwork Jul 26, 2012 11:09 AM (in response to William Weaver)Yes. If you provide a packaged workbook (twbx) with a bit of sample data we can show you how.

Shawn Wallwork Aug 3, 2012 8:04 AM (in response to William Weaver)William, this should do it. BTW, you can change the stack order of bar colors by changing the order of the color legend. Click-drag the color to swap them.

William Weaver Jul 27, 2012 11:35 AM (in response to Shawn Wallwork)Hi Shawn,
Yes, your changes were right on the mark. The bar chart now displays the data in the exact manner I was seeking. Thank you so much for help. Your solution also makes it clear that I need to learn basic SQL scripting so I can create my own calculated fields.

5. Re: How do I color code a set of trips by time in a bar graph?
Shawn Wallwork Jul 27, 2012 12:05 PM (in response to William Weaver)William, glad to help. In solving your issue I realized that Tableau could make life a bit easier if they added 'hour' and 'minute' to the DATETRUNC() function, so I added it to the Ideas (feature request) section here. Feel free to give it a vote.
Yep learning basic coding (function writing) is very helpful in Tableau (even though they are working their butts off to try and make it unnecessary!). But don't confuse what I provided with SQL work, that's a whole magnitude higher than the basic stuff I did for you.
Welcome to the party, hope you enjoy using the software, I sure do.
