The following two links provide information on different ways for creating groups when using blended data:
Hope this helps!
Thanks, I created a group using the calculated field, but I can't seem to get it to work with the map. It interacts just fine with the chart and the table, just not the map. I have it under the filter area for all three of them and it is set as a global filter. Any other tips?
Sounds like you many need to use table calculations to get the result you are looking for.
If you can provide a sample packaged workbook (.twbx) that represents your situation, an example can be made for you.
I tried the calcualted field, but the problem is I want to make it a multi-valued filter so they can look at multiple points at once, and from what I can tell, you can't do that with a calculated field.
I am not sure if what you created is the same thing that I would like to share with you.
There is no filter limitation that I know of for the method that I would use.

I cannot post a workbook as the data is not for public use, and I honestly couldnt replicate it I think. is there any way you can create some samples anyway, just from some other data so I can maybe replicate it in mine?
Thank you and sorry for the difficulty.
