To reset the password the following command can be used:
tabadmin passwd [user]
to reset the password for any user.
So, to reset the admin user it would be tabadmin passwd [admin username]
Thanks Tracey, however could you please let me know what exactly is the function of this command. I tried that but it does not ask me to change the password. I don't remember the password of a particular user, and I (the Admin) want to change the password. Even if we don't remember the Admin password, we can use Tab-admin but how can we change the password?
The command - tabadmin passwd [username] - when executed from a command prompt run in administrator mode will prompt the person running the command to enter and confirm the new password. This option only works when Tableau Server is setup to use Local authentication. If using AD authentication, the password is a Windows function and changing it occurs on the Windows domain.
thanks, indeed, this works. just had to do it now
I would like to change svn_ tableaudmin passwd on 10.4.1 windows server2012R2.
users setup was windows AD. Please guide how to change password.
If the authentication mode on Tableau server is AD, the password management is handled by the Active Directory. The resetting of password has to be done at the AD and not at the Tableau level.
Thank you Sourabh !
