Why do my excel table joins generate rows multiplicatively/combinatorially?

    Chris Rogers

I'm currently joining two excel tables of different size.  I would be happy either performing an inner join or a left join with the large data set as the left table, unfortunately no matter what kind of join I perform, the final table I generate has way too many rows.  Upon investigation with a simpler data set, it appears that my joins are generating rows in a combinatorial way for every single match along my joining field.

I feel as though there's something very simple that I'm not grasping with respect to joining excel tables.

Does anybody know what I'm doing wrong?

      Thanks,

      Chris
