Use different levels of geocoding (eg State & country) in same map?

I need to create a global map showing sales Regions/territories. In the US these are deliniated by States, whereas worldwide they are deliniated by Country.

I've attached an example twbx where example sates & countries are shown using a dual axis filled map - which is what I'd like to achieve with just a single axis. Reason being is that I need to also overlay other data on the map as shapes/icons - so ideally I'd need a triple axis...

So... any solutions to this whereby I can instruct Tableau to dynamically select a geographical role for a field based on a certain criteria/other field? Or to use more than one type of geographical role to plot on a single axis map?

      Thanks in advance.
