When you import data, it is pulled to your local machine and loaded into the Tableau Data Engine. However Teradata is a fast data warehouse for processing large amounts of data, and can scale substantially better than the Tableau Data Engine. You should probably rely on Teradata to handle the complex queries that Tableau issues, rather than trying to work with substantial amounts of data on your local machine. Instead of choosing "Import All" when you connect, you should choose "Connect Live".
Thank you Robert!
Did you get any answer to your problem as I am facing the similar issue. I am connected to a LIVE Connection but I am still facing long processing time.
I'm having the same issue as the other users. My data is stored in BigQuery which is pretty fast and it takes forever to "execute a query". I'm sitting on one at the moment that's been running for 8 minutes and counting.
The data is to large to put on my local computer hence the connection to BQ. Is there a way to speed this process up?
Let me know what you think!

If your queries are still running 'beyond expectable timeframes' you might want to look at the queries you are running.
Start your performance recorder and analyse the results. Its common for improperly built joins to be creating multiples of data in the background in poorly designed dashboards for what seems like a simple task.
