Brilliant. Thank you. I now know how to proceed with that I want to build.
I need the exact requirement as you shown in your attachments. But I am unable to get it. Can you please let me know the procedure. I have tried whatever you said but nothing favoured me.

Manideep thanks for looking for an answer before posting, even though this is more than three years old it is an important concept to understand to use Tableau effectively. In Tableau there are four pill types:
- Discrete Dimensions
- Continuous Measures
- Continuous Dimensions
- Discrete Measures
(Continuous pills are green; Discrete pills are blue.) Take a look at this:
Tableau renders the four pill types differently depending on where they are position on which shelf, and whether they are discrete or continuous. So to get the SUM(Discount) to list a column of values in text table format you drag the pill onto the Row shelf (which will produce a continuous pill by default) and then right click the pill and Convert to Discrete (and it changes from a bar to a text table like you see above). Same thing happens when you drag the Quantity field out onto the Row shelf. So put your discrete (blue) pills on the column shelf to make your text table.
Once that is done then drag your continuous (green) field onto the Column shelf and Tableau will (by default) turn that into a bar chart. Then you can drag copies of that onto the color and text shelf to finish up the screenshot I posted. Here's a good blog explaining blue and green things:
This is a wonderful thread and I'm also trying the same but luck hasn't favored. I hope you can also help me as I'm almost trying to do the same (like the OP) but I am to use the same measure (see Image 1).
This is what I'm trying to copy (see image 2).
Thank you very much in advance! =)
Thanks for explaining the concept in detail! I am new to Tableau. I want to implement the similar functionality but the user wants to see the Graph (bar chart) first followed by the numerical text data. Is this possible using one work sheet? The examples you provided shows the numerical values (text values) followed by the bar chart. I just need to change the order.
Do you know if there is a way to have the chart on the left and texts on the right?
I have the same request. Mixing Continuous and Discrete measures across the report doesn't seem possible.
Currently you can only keep Discrete (C Q Share and C Q Dol) with the dimensions in the rows, and then have it followed by the Measures that are graphed (Continuous).
The requirement would be to put the Continuous measure (graph) adjacent to the associated Discrete measure (text). So show the text, and then the graph, then another text, then graph. If you make all of the measures Continuous and then try to change the one you just want text for to "Label" they still shift the text (left to right) as if it were being graphed...whereas I just want it to behave as it did when it was Discrete (left justified and ability to total/sub total).
