I'm sure Joe Mako will do some type of Jedi trick that trumps this, but here's an example. I made a count for each status, and created field called "Status Count" to be used as the label.

The important change was placing "Phase" on the Level of Detail shelf instead of "ProjNum". Once that was done, you only needed to place "Number of Records" on the Label shelf instead of the five calculated fields.
Additionally, on the "Project Details" sheet, you may want to change the pill "MAX(Phase)" to be a discrete dimension (blue pill, no aggregation), and change your Highlight Action to be All Fields. That way only the projects in that phase mark get selected.
