No it doesn't, I don't really know any non-SAP product that can connect to the logical models/universe structures. I'm not sure it's really possible really. We ask this of most vendors when we're looking at products.
The only solution I've pondered (can't try it cos IT won't give me access) would be to take the generated query that InfoView creates and run that against an ODBC/Oracle connection. The issues that might arise there though are the prompts and when it splits it into multiple queries which it collerates in the application rather than the database.
The only workable solution I've got is to setup InfoView reports and batch run them to Excel output and ETL that into another database. Makes one feel unclean but it works.
It might be worth looking at the WebServices SAP BI exposes, at one point that was the only was Xcelcius got live data. So either some sort of ETL or funky WS-ODBC connector might do the trick.
I'd like to hear of any other ideas/options because smoothing this out would be fantastic.
There are couple workarounds to extract (kinda ETL) datasets from SAP
into another database (or even Excel PowerPivot) and then analyse it with Tableau.
Both theobald-software.com and erp-link.com are worth mentioned.
Ah, interesting thanks for these. I'll have a look
There is another way: use ODBC-to-MDX connector from simba.com to connect to SAP BW cubes as virtual star-scheme tables.
I have no idea about price and performance of the solution, but if you have SAP BW in place, it is definitely worth trying.
You're right. Thanks for the ideas, Yuri.
