Can INDEX() create pseudo Index on dataset?

I have a dataset that comes ordered in a certain way, unfortunately it has no "index" column that would allow me to sort it into this original sort order in Tableau.

I know that the INDEX() function returns the index of the current row in the partition.  Short of going into this dataset and manually creating an Index column, is there any way to use this or another function to create an index on the entire dataset that will represent the original sort order?
