I'm definitely looking for this answer, too! I have a simple bar chart and I want to auto-sort by the % of Total. I can get this to work manually by clicking the icon on the toolbar but when I try to edit this sort it merely shows that the data is manually sorted. I want this to auto-sort when new data is available. Thanks!
You can sort by the result of custom table calculation calculated field, but only in some situations. The exact setup depends on your situation. if you can provide a sample packaged workbook the represents your situation, then a demonstration of a route to get the result that you want can be provided.
Has anyone followed up on this question? I am trying to do the same thing except in my dashboard view since the data is so small I'd like to sort by a calculated % field; however, when moving from one person in a quick filter to another I lose the sort. Any suggestions? I'm fairly new to Tableau.
If you can provide a sample packaged workbook that demonstrates what you currently have, assistance can be provided.
I have created a calculated field "STR" (Formula: if attr([Impressions Delivered])=0 then 0 else (sum([Impressions Delivered])-sum([House Impressions]))/sum([Impressions Delivered]) end)
If I have to sort STR by Page, how can I get this done? I am able to select only Impressions Delivered or House Delivered, but dont see STR in the drop down.
Screenshort of the report:
I don't see the STR field listed under measures, so it's probably defined as a Dimension, in which case it won't show up as an option for sorting.
I'm also having this problem (why isn't there a simple answer?? )
Even if the field is listed under measures, it does not appear as an option for sorting.
Does anyone know if there is an elegant 'click here' solution to sorting calculated fields or not?
My particular example is a simple %of total row calculation that I wish to sort some dimensions by.
I've got a similar problem that I wanted to try to post here with an attached sheet for demonstration.
This sheet has a couple of measures to make a YoY comparisons for 3 month market share.
The goal is to publish a “Top N” list for stores that have the largest increase in market share YoY.
In order for “Top N” to work properly sorting based on market share change needs to take place before the Index(). This is where I’m stuck and manual sorting each time the table is recalculated is not an option.
I tried to sort store by [Market Share by Sales | YoY Change % | 3 Months] but this calculated field is not available although others are. Not quite sure why that is but some of you probably know all about that.
Hope this is clear enough for someone to want to reach out and lend a hand
In your above graph, what if you don't want to show your green graph but sort by that value?
