Can you describe what you're doing in terms of what you're putting on the Rows shelf v. the Columns shelf?
Thanks for responding James, my data come from a compensation survey.
On the column self I have a position title (there are 80 of them)nested with a variable: Coast NonCoast (meaning the institution reporting that position title is located on a Cost or not).
On the row shelf I have (amongst many thing)a categorical variable Eligible for cash bonus: No=0 and Yes=1 then say another categorical variable Eligible for Long term incentive, again: No=0 and Yes=1 and them a variable of the amount of cash bonus received (0 or amount).
I have tried simply stacking these variables in the row shelf as I would in SPSS or Excel, also I have tried making new variables e.g:IF [Eligible for cash bonus]=1 THEN 'ECB_1'.
All I can get Tableau to do is nest the row variables.
Disappointed in myself for getting stuck on what has been in other programs a simple thing to do (creating the various variables can be difficult).
I hope this helps.
I think I figured it out. Thanks
