Dimitri.B Jun 28, 2010 8:01 PM (in response to . ezrafischer)Doesn't look like there is a way to format just the mark labels, but you can apply default formatting to the measure and the mark labels will inherit it. You can then change formatting of graph axis and sheets to something else - the mark labels should remain as you set in default (see attached screenshot).

guest contributor Jul 14, 2010 3:48 PM (in response to . ezrafischer)I needed to move the mark labels on a map to make them easier to read. When I change my conditions with a quick filter the marks move back to the default point and I have to move them again.
Is there a way to 'fix' the marks once they are moved?

Ben Redd Jul 23, 2011 11:24 AM (in response to . ezrafischer)Patty, I am running into the same issue. I have a map with quite a bit of data, and finally decluttered the labels nicely. Now, whenever I change anything, the labels move back to their original location. It's really annoying when you're dealing with maps with lots of data--I'd rather not declutter the entire thing another some 450 times.
Anyone have a solution?

Becky Logan Sep 2, 2011 7:05 AM (in response to . ezrafischer)I would like to be able to make the mark labels the same color as the line they are marking. I have some line charts where the points are close together so it would make it clearer if I could use different colors to show which line a mark label belongs to. I see Label options on the Marks shelf that APPEARS to allow you to make font changes to the mark labels you have selected, but when I use this, all the mark labels on the chart disappear. And what is the difference between Selecting and Highlighting? I believe Selecting means to hold the Shift key while clicking on the marks whose mark labels you want to format.

Hi Raoul,
This is not currently possible intuitively. However, as a possible workaround, a dual axis can be made with (using the same measure that's on the rows shelf, right click, select Dual Axis; right click again and select Mark type) with one instance of the measure being a line mark type and the other being a text mark type. Then, toggle through to the second instance of the measure on the mark card, and place the desired label on the text shelf. Hope this helps!

If I follow your instructions and the dimension labels overlap is there any way to mannually separate them?
Thanks in advance,

Hi Craig,
Hover over the label until the 4-arrow cursor appears. Then, you can drag the label to the desired place.

Craig Braithwaite Oct 11, 2012 6:51 PM (in response to Tracy Rodgers)Hi Tracy,
On a dual axis chart, if mark type 1 is a line and mark type two is text then the text is positioned directly underneath the line. In this situation many of the text marks overlap each other.
I understand that mark labels can be moved manually as suggested above however when the label is actually a mark type rather than a mark label then it can't be moved manually.
Ideally I'd like to have a colour coded text label at the start of each line (but not covered by the line or other close labels). Is there any work around here?
Cheers
