Please can you try right clicking on your datetime field and selecting Set Default->Date Format->select yours from the list (I think yours is 4th from the bottom) and trying again to drag it onto Columns? Please let us know if that helped or if you still see an error.

I have a similar issue, my dates are stored in the YYYYMMDD format, and when I try to do anything with my different date fields, I get the following error:
Firebird database error 335544810: value exceeds the range for valid dates
show query shows:
SELECT ((TRUNC("TableauExtract"."MaturityDate") + CAST('1900-01-01' AS DATE))) AS "none:MaturityDate:qk"
GROUP BY 1
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
Tell Tableau your field is a string and then define a calculated date field like this:
I vaguely recall having some fun and games with working out whether you need to say "10/04/2010" or "04/10/2010" for 10th April - I seem to remember Jet and Firebird may treat that differently. Probably depends on your locale, too.
