Everything looks fine on all the flow steps, but once I add at Output step and try to run it, I get this message: System error: TableauException: Error in projectOp: Function * not supported with given input expression types.
Any suggestions on where to start troubleshooting? I have no idea which functions are a problem. They do include several functions for creating percentile ranks, which I have done in the past without issue.
Hi Team, I would like to import multiple csv files from S3 into tableau prep at a time using wildcard. It is possible to download the file from S3 and then load them in prep but it is manual. However I directly want to load it from S3 to prep.
Incremental update for Prep not working: All data is added again in a new run or some random Month is selected as output
In most cases, I simply process all the available data in a flow. I don't use the "Append" function based on some unique field.
As the sources grow, I decided to use the Append function in Prep as the sources contain a unique Event_ID (A counter), that should allow for incremental updating:
With the following settings:
The initial run (no database yet) is about 11 minutes. The second run about 3 minutes. So I thought it just worked, but NO. Prep simply appends all the sources again to the output database.
A third run does the same.
In some cases Prep does something else: it selects a random month and outputs only THAT data to the output database.
So either I do something wrong, or Prep is just not working.
For now, I will fall back on filtering on File_Paths. Prep does read all the sources, but only processes the new files based on a join. That seems to work at least.
Hello everyone, Im pretty new in Tableau Prep Builder. I would like to use tabpy in order to run my script while creating flows in Tablau. My question: is it possible to pass parameters in python script and their arguments in tableau?
For example my parameter in python could be column name: def test(column_name). And in Tableau I want to pass column name for my python script. Is it possible?
Prep takes ages to respond to the save button or save (ctrl-S) key, overwriting new changes...
For some reason, Prep takes a lot of time to save a flow. I can see the CPU is busy, but it just doesn't save the flow until I exit Prep and get the question if Prep should save the flow. Well guess what...
I have no idea why this simple function takes ages, but the bad thing is that once Prep finally does the save, it also reloads that saved flow (from 10-15 minutes ago) thereby overwriting all the changes I made in the meantime 😡
I see the same (slow, slow, slow) behaviour if I want to change the filename of an output: for some reason Prep is doing stuff, and overwrites/resets my changes if I start typing to soon.
These things are getting annoying, as it leads to unsaved changes.
I'm using the latest version, ie 2024.3.3
I hope the upcoming 2025 version is bug-free and does support themes finally, as we live in 2025 😁
Can I publish and schedule a Tableau Prep flow (2024.3 Version) that outputs 3 .csv files to a shared OneDrive/SharePoint "Outputs" folder location? What are my other options?
I have created a Tableau Prep flow that has 6 connections (4 .csv files and 2 .xlsx files).
I want to direct the 6 input files to come from a shared OneDrive/SharePoint "Inputs" folder location, using the OneDrive and SharePoint Online connector, so that whenever the input files are overwritten by somebody in the team the changes are taken into account.
I have a .hyper file coming out as a Published Data Source to be subsequently used in a Tableau workbook and this works well.
However, I also want 3 .csv files to be pushed into a shared OneDrive/SharePoint "Outputs" folder location. Can I achieve this (particularly when considering the planned schedule to run the flow each morning)?
After some research I understand that csv outputs in Tableau Server/Cloud are not fully supported - so I'd like to know what my options are.
I have tried reading through the following links to help support this scenario as well:
I'm currently struggling with a problem which I thought Tableau Prep would be able to solve pretty easily. I have a bunch of excel sheets of water quality test results. Unfortunately they're really poorly laid out. I have rows for each site and test, with columns for each parameter tested. Unfortunately, each test is represented by two rows, with one row having the results for roughly half the parameters tested, and the other row having the results for the other parameters. There's no overlap between rows.
I'm hoping to merge the rows so that I just have a single row with all parameter results for each test at each location.
Is there a simple way to do this? - I've attached a screenshot showing how the data s setup in excel.
