What happens to a user's content when they are moved from Creator to Viewer?
My organization has a limited number of Creator licenses, and one user is no longer using theirs so I want to move them to Viewer. However, they do own content.
Will their content still be accessible when I change their license?
Can column labels be altered if they are calculated?
We use a lot of calculated fields because oftentimes there are several corrections to the content of a field, and there is a hierarchy to which version of this information should be prioritized, although all must be recorded.
Salesforce cannot export the result of a calculation done within it, so that has to be done in Tableau. That is fine, but because of that, the field I end up with is a calculation.
To make things easier/more understandable for both me and anyone else who edits the same charts, I tend to name calculated fields to be things that very specifically explain how they came to exist, and use other text indicators that they are fields we actually want to use in visualizations.
As an example: //ULT Duration/60 is the name of a field
// makes it easy to search, ULT Duration is the formula that chooses the right version of the duration, which is originally a calculation anyway.
This would all be well and good but the result is that if this field is used as a column name in a crosstab, I can't edit that label, ie change it to "hours" or something simple.
Is it possible to automatically refresh an extract that is not a Tableau Data Source?
I am taking over the maintenance and administration of an existing dashboard. It is linked to a datasource that is an extract from the data warehous. However, it is not a Tableau Datasource, but it is being refreshed every day. How is this possible? If a schedule was created in TabCMD, how can I find that job? Everyone involved on the creation of this dashboard is long gone from the company and the dashboard has been running for a long time without any maintenance, so there is no one I can ask. For as far as I can tell Tableau Bridge was not activated.
Site Content data source from Admin Insights is outdated
Hi,
I am working with the Site Content data source, which is published in the Admin Insights section. I have noticed that although it updates daily, it displays outdated data.
Currently, I am trying to identify the list of "Certified" data sources using the "Data Source is Certified" dimension. However, it is showing irrelevant values. For example, I marked three data sources as "Certified" last week, and I can see the "Certified" status in Tableau Cloud, but in the Site Content data, the value of the "Data Source is Certified" dimension is still FALSE.
Could you please suggest where the error might be coming from and why the data is not up-to-date?
Tableau Cloud connects to Azure DB, when attempting to use an initial SQL it says username or password is incorrect.
Hello,
My company has a Tableau Cloud site, which connects to an Azure MS SQL server. I am using a service account for this (not SSO). The Azure server has an address used internally, and then a .public address used when connecting from Tableau Cloud.
I am able to connect to the Azure SQL server from the cloud normally, There are multiple data sources regularly refreshing extracts. However, when I try to add an Initial SQL, it asks me to sign in, and then states "The username or password is not valid. Check the database name and credentials and try again." The error message goes on to call out the service account username, which is correct. I don't see a way to confirm what password it is sending, but it should be the same as when signing in without the initial SQL.
For testing purposes, I have been attempting to sign in with the Initial SQL blank, or with a simple select statement.
When connecting to the Azure DB using the Tableau desktop client, I am able to do an initial SQL without any issue. This is using the same credentials, though it is the internal, not the ,public Azure server address. I don't think that this should be an issue though unless the connecting IP for an initial SQL connection is different than a normal connection (and therefore not one the Azure server's allow list).
What is different about the Tableau Cloud initial SQL sign in that might be causing the credentials, which work in all other contexts, to be rejected? Any insight on his would be greatly appreciated.
Connect 2 dashboards (separate files) by related field / create button to open related record from one dashboard in another dashboard / browser tab?
Hi all!
I have 2 dashboards based on the same project list with project names & unique project IDs, but the dashboards are very different from each other and saved as different files in tableau cloud.
I'm wondering if it is possible to create a link on one of the dashboards that would open the related record (found by unique Project ID) in another dashboard? This could open in another browser tab since I am using tableau cloud.
If the answer is no due to the dashboards being in 2 files - is this something that would be possible if the dashboards were in the same file? I could potentially re-make one of the dashboards to combine them into a single file if it would provide the functionality.
I can't share my files for NDA reasons but I made an extremely simple sample file to try and show my request, with options for accessing the dashboards in 2 different files as well as all in 1 file if all-in-one is the only way to make this work.
In the example, I have a Projects List, Project Staffing and Project Locations worksheets.
There are 2 dashboards: Project Locations and Project Staffing
Both dashboards use the Projects List as a filter to show the related Project Location or Project Staffing data
The functionality I am hoping for between them is:
*If Dashboard 2 is not opening in a separate browser, then this will raise the issue of needing to also navigate back to the original record in Dashboard 1 which I hope to avoid*
Is there a way to change a connector password once and have it apply to all relevant datasources?
Our organisation uses 2 main connectors: Databricks and Redshift. Redshift connections are done via username/pw, and Databricks through PAT.
One of our users owns >100 datasources and was required to perform a password reset. If the password is not updated in the connection details, extract refreshes will fail when scheduled to run.
The user wants to know if it's possible to change the username/password somewhere centralized in Tableau Cloud, and have it apply to all relevant datasources. Example: the combination "user_name" and "new-password" for Redshift gets changed once, and is applied to all of this user's Redshift connections.
(I am aware it's possible to select all datasources in a folder and edit connection details, but this doesn't work if there's a combination of connection types, which is often the case here)

This blog post aims to outline the best course of action if when trying to sign in to Tableau Cloud you receive the following error message:
Unable to Sign In. This site has been suspended
What causes this to happen?
There are many possible reasons for this error but in general it means that the license for the site you are trying to sign into is no longer licensed.
Trial Site
For example, if you sign up to a free trial of Tableau Cloud this gives you a 14 day free trial but if you try to sign into the site after this time you may see
Tableau Cloud Site License Expired
The license associated with the Tableau Cloud site may have reach it’s expiry date.
Another scenario that may occur is if you recently purchased a Tableau Cloud license after having a Tableau Cloud trial but the key has not been applied to the trial site.
What can I do?
This depends on your role within the Tableau Cloud site:
I am a regular user/student user of the Tableau Cloud site (not a Site Admin)
If you are a member of more than one Tableau Cloud site, double check you are trying to login to the correct active site (eg. you might be accidentally trying to login to an old site)
Contact your Site Admin to let them know of this issue. If you are unsure who the Site Admin is, contact your local IT Team. If you are a student user accessing a Tableau Cloud class site, contact your course instructor.
I am a Site Admin
Confirm the issue is happening for your user also
This issue is going to need some assistance from Tableau to resolve with you. Contact the Tableau Customer Service at customerservice@tableau.com. If you also know who your Tableau account representative is, feel free to copy them in on this email to Customer Service. Give as much information as possible to the Customer Service team to help quickly resolve the issue. For example:
Tableau Cloud Site Name
When the issue occurred
Any other information that might be relevant (eg. Did you recently purchase a new license, or convert a trial Tableau Cloud site into a full Tableau Cloud site). Any information here that might be useful will help quicker identify the cause of the issue.
Commonly, a user will raise a case with Technical Support for this issue but we recommend using the above email customerservice@tableau.com to contact our Customer Service team for a suspended Tableau Cloud site.
