Possible to have a waterfall with Target vs Actual side by side per measure value?
I'm trying to show target vs actual in a waterfall like visual. I understand this isn't typically how waterfall visuals are used but wondering it it's possible.
I'd like to have Target vs Variance side by side where variance would start at same same height of Target and go up or down depending number sign being positive or negative.
I can get them in the same visual:
But when I try dual axis they overlap rather than side by side and of course the starting points are off
Closest example I can think of is something like this where the red and green bars are side by side the actual
I have a dashboard where the user can select a year via the bar chart (using the bar chart as a filter). The selected year's store count is shown and I want to derive the previous year's store count so I can use it in a calculation for the YoY difference (so for example: Store Count: 287 â–²14 stores from prior year)
I've tried:
COUNTD(if [Transaction Date]=DATEADD('year',-1,[Transaction Date]) then [Store ID] end)
But it returns 0. I found elsewhere that using a filter means the previous years aren't available, so could be one reason it's not working. I would prefer not to use a self-join solution because the real dataset (this is an example I made for this question) has a lot of relationships, could get messy.
Actual & Budget data has different account code for same description, so it is not showing budget values in the view.
What i am doing is, it will show actual value till the month i select in parameter and then budget for rest of the month. Also, both has its own date, and i am using actual month(date) in the view.
I want Actual & Budget values in the view for plastic sheet.
Aggregation - Sum at lower level and Average for higher level of dimensions
Hi All,
I have a dataset where there is a hierarchy of groups of people.
For instance let's say a group of people is called group A
A Collection of Group A's is called Group B
and a Collection of Group B's is called Group C
I have Group A, Group B and Group C filters in my bar chart.
I am trying to achieve a calculation where when a user selects a Group A value, then tableau should show a sum, when I am selecting Group B and C filters, it should aggregate it as an average. Any suggestions on how this can be achieved?
View underlying data is not filtering the data as per the view
Hello everyone,
I have been noticing that the filters applied to the view/viz does not always apply to the view full data. For example, in my view I am showing Ticket quantity per month(see attached screenshot).
However, when I do view full data for any month, I see the chats included there as well (see screenshot). The ticket_qty field is null for chats, yet they show up.
I have been noticing this with many other viz's as well. Any idea how to fix this?

We have a tableau server hosted in house. Tableau Server Version: 2020.4.1 (20204.21.0114.0916) 64-bit Windows single node as this is a small firm and has not been upgraded since 3 year.
We want to migrate to a new Windows Server 2022 and also upgrade the tableau server to the latest.
what is the best and most efficient way to achieve this without losing any data?
Hi @Saumya Saumya (Member), some guidance / insights first.
If you aim for Windows Server 2022, then I would suggest major release 2023.3 meaning currently 2023.3.9, instead of 2024.2 as you can see on many posts of this forum, version 2024.2 contains a decent amount of bugs currently so I would recommend 2023.3 major release
I would say you can go straight upgrading from 2020.4 to 2023.3. The most important thing is to plan well and test on a new server for a blue green approach ideally or at least on a test server.
Many things have changed for examples the specs (min 128 GB RAM for Prod)
You can use also check this Tableau Public maintained release navigator with the Upgrade from / to option to see all the features that are relevant to you
