I just upgraded tableau server 2020.4 to 2023.3.14. My question is is there more stable version than this, should we upgrade further to some 2024 version?
Hi, we recently upgraded our on-prem Tableau Server from 2020.4 to 2023.3.14. Since we don’t upgrade often, we want to ensure we are on the most stable version that will serve us for the next 2–3 years with minimal issues. Should we consider upgrading to a newer version, such as 2024 or any upcoming LTS releases?
Our server hosts 50 users, runs on windows. Stability, security patches, and long-term support are our priorities. Any insights on the best version to settle on for long-term use would be appreciated!
My advice to clients is always "update frequently", I would not recommend upgrading every 2-3 years as you stated. If you upgrade frequently, upgrades are not hard. The longer time you leave it (as in bigger jumps in versions) the harder the upgrade might become.
We are having some performance issues with Tableau on SAP HANA. After a lot of digging, we found out that HANA does not like the HAVING (COUNT(1)>0) clause Tableau adds in metrics-only queries. This could be helped by adding <customization name='CAP_QUERY_HAVING_REQUIRES_GROUP_BY' value='yes' /> to the TDC file.
I wonder if there are any other best practices in setting up both the TDC-file, so that Tableau is sender queries that SAP HANA will "like".
We recently upgraded tableau server from 2023.1 to 2023.3 during this upgrade we also installed an self-signed SSL certificate for the first time. However, users have been complaining about having to login twice even when using correct credentials.
When they get the signin screen they first get a blank page with a browser pop up asking them for their credentials, this step always seems to always fail however with the error "sign in failed". It brings them to the 'standard' login screen where they have the ability to enter credentials again or "sign in using your windows credentials" both of these work.
I personally have not experienced this issue, it succeeds after the first pop up. But i have seen other users and admins experience this issue.
we're using local authentication.
Do any of you have any idea what might be the cause of this?
We think we've figured it out however, one of my colleagues tried adding the url to the local intranet (Control Panel > Internet Options > Security > Local intranet > Sites > advanced) in the windows options. It seems to have done the trick.
TableauServer upgrade 2022-1-3 installation is failing saying "Master Key with id xxxxxxxx is not found in key store, config, or in system property". Getting same error for lower versions. Any idea how it can be fixed?
@Swathi Gayam (Member) I'm afraid the best fix is to re-install your Tableau Server instance - confirm you have full data backups before you complete the re-install
Hi, What is the best way to uninstall old tableau desktop versions in bulk for the users?
We want to install first the version 2023.3.9 and then unsitall the old ones.
We have multiple desktop versions installed un end users, such as 2020.1.1, 2021.1.3, 2020.2.1, 2021.1.3 which are no longer available to be downloaded.
You can try using powershell scripts to automate bulk software removal. or try SCCM (haven't used it but I guess this can be used for bulk removal requests as well).
