Ray Givler (Member) asked a question.
We have two tableau servers:
- an existing on-prem server
- the new GCP server
Usage has stopped on the on-prem server.
Dashboards have been moved to GCP server and will continue to be used there.
Question:
What is my best approach to preserve the data from on-prem after it is shut down, keeping in mind that I am not on the admin team that controls the server and I have few privileges on it? I can read the usage data source - that's about it.
Ideally, I'd like to merge the two somehow, but that seems unrealistic. If I dump the old data to a .csv, I don't see how I'd merge or union that with a connection to the new server. I also have read that I can't simply reference across servers. Keep in mind that the new server data will continue to expand. Also, somehow extracting from the old and merging with an *extraction* of the new will be breaking new ground - right now I just directly access the usage. It seems like there is no good answer and that I might have to rebuild the views for old and new server and drive the old off an extract, which is super clunky. I appreciate any ideas for solutions.
Good to know you got it:-)
