Tableau could integrate with the R environment for statistical computing in various ways.
Completely Under the Hood
Integration could be used to accelerate the implementation and reliability of complex statistical features.
For sophisticated users, integration could mean an R terminal interface augmented to allow Tableau variables to be dragged into R and R variables to be dragged back to Tableau.
Since the R save function serializes the current workspace into an RData file, some users might find it helpful if Tableau could attach to RData files as a datasource. A symmetric feature would provide R with readTDE and writeTDE functions. Since tabular data is the only information in the R workspace which Tableau can use and this data can more easily be passed back and forth via CSV files, this type of integration is less useful than the two above.
