Connecting to Excel, Access, and Other Text Files

Version 2

Tableau has the very powerful ability to allow report authors to use Excel and other text-based files as a data source.  However, if the report is to be shared from a network folder or published to the Tableau Server then it is imperative that the workbook points exactly to the file data source, not by a "nickname" or drive mapping.  This document expands on the subject, showing how to create a UNC path for connecting to a data source located on a network share, which I feel doesn't have enough emphasis within the Tableau documentation.
