Hello Tableau Community
There is a lot going on in the community lately as we start setting our eyes on Tableau Conference in a few months. Tableau employees put a huge effort into making sure that attendees get the absolute most out of Tableau Conference each year. Have you registered for Tableau Conference yet this year? Don't delay as we sell out every year. Register via this link if you have not signed up yet.
Have you ever grown tired of the same old work data and wanted to use your creative mind with Tableau to try something new? Check out #makeovermonday on Twitter or head straight over to Andy Kriebel and Eva Murray's site - https://www.makeovermonday.co.uk/blog/
My favorite viz was this one designed by Andras Szesztai with data covering the journey of life of the great Anthony Bourdain.
+ Speaking of #makeovermonday, Andy and Eva will be running a Tableau careers webinar series starting September 6th. This series starts off with a webinar about how Tableau Conference can be used as a career springboard. There will be 6 weekly webinars with two presenters each, talking about their Tableau jobs, what they love about their work, how they got there and what they recommend to the audience from their own experiences. Check this out here - Webinars | Makeover Monday
+ Zen Master, Bridget Cogley has put together a great post titled 'How the EXCEL do I do Mapping in Tableau? The Toddler Guide to getting on Point - TableauFit ' to help you get going with shapefiles and mapping in Tableau. This resource is one you will want bookmarked the next time a map project in Tableau is on your to do list.
+ Do you live near Washington D.C.? If so, you will want to join in this Thursday night for the DC Tableau Users Group meeting at the Mapbox offices in Washington DC. Zen Masters, Allan Walker and Tamas Foldi will be on hand to help with mapping, data needs and/or questions. Remote teams are welcome via the google hangout registration. Register for this event via Eventbrite (it's free) here: DC TUG - Hackathon Tickets, Thu, Aug 23, 2018 at 6:00 PM | Eventbrite
A huge Thank you goes out to Zen Master Ken Flerlage who achieved the Answer Wizard award. This is the most challenging of all the awards on the community forums as it requires that over 100 of the replies posted have been marked 'correct' by the original poster of the question. Thank you Ken for all your contributions to the forums!
In another remarkable achievement, Ritesh Bisht achieved the Question Slayer badge for 50 correctly marked posts this week as well. Thank you to Ritesh.
▲ Most Talked about Thread
The most viewed thread in the forums this week was started by Peter Fakan in his post titled Has anybody ever done this type of viz in Tableau ? - where Zen Master, Shinichiro Murakami recreates a customer 'turnip graph'. Bookmark this one for the next time you need such a graph as it is somewhat similar to our own Crow's Nest.
▲ Top Voted Idea
The Top vote getter this week in our Ideas area is Allow Server Administrators To View As Other Users. This idea gained an additional 9 votes this week. Thank you to Adam Freeman for this idea post from 2016.

Need a moment away from your visualizations to have a laugh and enjoy the day, check out the hashtag #KidsExplainData on Twitter. Elissa Fink recently sat down with a group of kids to talk about data (and life in general). You'll want to watch these videos. We have even started a little contest that you can join. Create your own gif and post to twitter with the hashtag #KidsExplainData between August 16 and 23 to have a chance at $100 gift card to the Tableau Store. Read all about how Kids Explain Data and join in by clicking over to Here’s what happened when we asked kids to explain data—and how you can join our #KidsExplainData GIF contest | Tableau …
Rahul Motwani wrote up a blog to share the details of the new Tableau Mobile for the Blackberry Dynamics Platform. Click on the link to learn more.
And we have launched a new resource in the community to support the newly released Extensions API
Keep visualizing and have a great safe last month of summer!
