Command line switches

Is there a complete list of command line parameters for Tableau.exe available anywhere? I know about a couple of them but I'm trying to determine what Tableau can and cannot do and knowing the options available would be helpful.

The two that I do know about are:

tableau.exe /p [file.twb]

This will print the .twb file to the default printer.

tableau.exe /package [file.twb]

Packages up a .twb file to a .twbx file, at least that is what I think it does. I've never used this one before and there isn't any documentation that I can find.

If there is a place to find this documentation, can someone please point it out? If you know of other options, besides the two I've described, please feel free to let us know about them.

Running "Tableau /package" never quits.

Hi,

I'm using the /package switch for tableau.exe in version 8.04 and while a packaged workbook is created the tableau.exe process never ends. The tableau.exe process just sits there using 25% CPU. Other than manually killing the process is there a way to prevent this from happening?

Trusted Authentication Landing/Starting page

Hi,

We're trying to setup a trusted authentication portal to get our users off of AD. Is there any way to setup a default landing page for trusted authentication users so they can select the view they'd like to see in a session? Preferably the Projects - Overview page or even the Views - Overview page.

I've tried changing the default starting page under Maintenance but can't get a proper page to come up. If I try to use the path as "http:/server/trusted/[valid ticket]/views/projects" the Tableau login page come up even after the request has been authenticated.

At this point, the only work around I can think of is connecting to the Tableau database, looking up the views a user has access to and then creating my own page. This seems like a substantial undertaking for a basic landing page feature for trusted authentication.

So has any one gotten a default landing page to work with Trusted authentication or have other ideas in how to approach this issue?

Calculated Field queries

We are trying to use a calculated field to display a sentence that contains some date information which is pulled from discreet dimension database columns. The database dimensions used are:

[begin_year] - Numeric datatype

[end_year] - Numeric datatype

[begin_month] - Varchar2 datatype

[end_month] - Varchar2 datatype

We would like to have a calculated field like this:

'Your report runs from ' + [begin_month] + ' ' + [begin_year] + ' through ' + [end_month] + ' ' + [end_year] + '.'

Which would produce the sentence:

Your report runs from July 2011 through June 2012.

With me so far? The issue is that the sql that Tableau creates for the calculated field is so immense and unwieldy that it times out. I've been able to create a calculated field that uses just two database dimensions such as this:

'Your report runs from ' + [begin_year] + ' through ' + [end_year] + '.'

Which produces this:

Your report runs from 2011 through 2012.

Adding more that two database dimensions into the calculated field just kills it. This is an Oracle database using a single table data source with three filters on it. The database table is of reasonable size 25K rows. This is not a cube, just a straight forward db table using Tableau Desktop 6.1.

Does anyone have any tips on how to get calculated fields to create more manageable sql? I've tried experimenting with wrapping the database dimensions with the ISNULL function, but that doesn't seem to help. Like this:

'Your report runs from ' + ISNULL([begin_year], '') + ' through ' + ISNULL([end_year], '') + '.'

Any help would be greatly appreciated!
