Removing a data layer on user action

I have a choropleth (a polygon based intensity map) over which I also display pie charts (one per polygon). I have a parameter control that allows the viewer to select which data set the pie charts represent - and also to remove them altogether (leaving just the polygon map displayed).

However, I can't figure out how to remove the pie chart mark layer. The best I've come up with is to null out all pills in the level of detail shelf (by using a calculated field that goes to 0) - but this still leaves one pie chart in the middle of my map, with a null value. I am attaching a screenshot of what the dashboard looks like when a data set is selected for the pie charts.

Any ideas will be much appreciated. Thanks a lot for your help!
