Combining Multiple filters into a single layout container

So I've got 3 filters in one category on the viz.. I need a grouping border around them.. somewhat randomly and with no clue how it happened I was able to move the first set of these into a container and put a border around them. How exactly are you supposed to do that, since I'm unable to repeat the process... Does it require a specific container on the dashboard?? Is there a special key you hold down to get them to merge?? Some pull down menu that is non-obvious?? There is nothing in the documentation on how to make this happen.. so share the secret please..
