Currency Conversions at Record Level with Data Blending in Tableau

Hi All,

New to the boards with a newbie question, apologies if this has been asked before. I am attempting to take an FX table that lives in teradata and marry it to my dataset in mySQL, which contains local amounts. I obviously want to convert the local amounts to USD in order to standardize my viz for management.

However, I'm running into an issue when building a calculation between the two data sets. Tableau is forcing me to use aggregate functions, which works if my viz is drilled down to the appropriate level, but obviously does not work if I consolidate my data.

Example: currency is broken out by fiscal year, fiscal period, from currency and to currency, which are join-able dimensions between both of my datasets (not optimal, but it's what I'm working with preliminarily).

When I break out a table by year, period and calculation sum(local_amt_from_mysql) * min(exchange_rate_from_teradata), all works fine. When consolidated, obviously the calc is thrown. Avg does not work, nor do any of the other aggregation functions, once I up-level the view.

I've worked around this by integrating the teradata data set into mysql and joining, however, I'd like for this to live in Tableau to prevent any future data integration jobs needed.

Any ideas?
