forecast trend show as different colour

I'm disappointed to discover that it's not straightforward to set part of the trend line as 1 color, then the forecast as the other.

I started with all the values in 1 column

I transposed the data into format: month, value, forecast value. into format: month, value, forecast value. To create 2 separate trends, with the aim to put them on 1 chart, side by side, giving the illusion that the trend line is the same series, 1 is colored actual, the other forecast. But the issue now is it refuses to recognize NULL values. Even when I write the value 'NULL' in the raw data (excel) it converts them to 0. I tried excluding the 0 values, in the hope that it would remove them from the series and it does but it then removes the entire date period in the chart - so the corresponding actual/forecast value is then also removed...

Is there not a simple way to set this up?

thanks

Joel
