Can anyone tell me how to make coverage maps?

I have two lists of ZIP codes. One list is of client locations and the other is of our brick-&-mortar locations. Is there a way for Tableau to tell me which of our brick-&-mortar locations is closest to each of our client locations?

Basically, what I'm hoping to have is a coverage map on which I can overlay client locations to see areas of potential expansion.

Anybody know how to do that?

Why isn't Tableau 8.1 recognizing my date information that I'm importing from PowerPivot 2010?

I have a PowerPivot 2010 file that has a list of entries that contains a column for date. When I import into Tableau 8.1, it comes up as a default String rather than a date, which doesn't let me group entries by month/year/quarter/etc. The format in PowerPivot is dd/mm/yyyy, which by everything I've read so far is valid. I'm new to this and haven't had much experience with Tableau.
