How can I call a decrypt function using custom sql?

I've got an application that stores encrypted data, and I'm trying to wrap the selected parameters in a decrypt function in the custom SQL box. Instead of something like:

select first_name from people

I need to be able to execute:

select data_encrypt.decrypt(first_name) from people

Unfortunately, when I execute the above I get:

I'm handling the actual act of decrypting at the database user level, so the only real thing I need to do inside the custom SQL is call the decrypt function.

I'm currently using a demo version of 8.0 desktop in the hopes that I can get this to work somehow and buy a full license. Does anyone have any experience working with something like this?
