Using Built-In Tableau Functions to Pull Instagram Hashtags

Has anyone had success using built-in Tableau function(s) (e.g. RegEx_Extract) to pull Instagram hashtag data?

I've built a table that has all Instagram posts that I care about and would like to see which hashtags people are using the most? The table has the post caption in a cell for each post/entry.

I've tried the RegEx_Extract function, but the hashtag (#) character is not working out. I've also tried the Custom Split function on the Caption dimension with the split on the hashtag character, but that didn't work well because 1) it only performed ten splits at a time, and 2) the splits also included non-hashtagged words.

I'd like to avoid using the Excel Plug-In to reshape the data because this solution is not very scalable.

Or do you have more clever ways to do hashtag analysis within Tableau?

Transforming Data within Tableau

Is it possible to take a dimension and convert it to a measure AND split the individual dimension values into individual measures?

I would like to take each unique value for IndicatorName (column F) and create a column for each unique value. For example, the IndicatorName "GNI per capita" will now be column J with its values for the corresponding country is correctly populated.

I've attached the Excel file which contains two spreadsheets:

- Original = shows the report format as it is now

- Transformed = shows how I want to reformat the data

How should I go about doing this?

Matrix Calculation

I want to take the values of the column and divide it by the row.

Sorting to Create Periodic Table

Anyone know how I can sort this so that the highest sum of measure name is on top and the lowest is on the bottom, across each year?

Y1993 should have: Foreign Stocks on top, Small Stocks second, Small Growth Stocks third, etc.

Y1994 should have: Foreign Stocks on top, Large Stocks second, Large Growth Stocks third, etc.

I'm close, but no cigar.

Calculating Return on Investment

I have the table with two columns: date and monthly return rate

I want to calculate the return on my investment - which started at $10,000.

I can calculate and visualize the cumulative return rate by doing a quick table calculation for Running Total on the measure (Monthly Return Rate). But this is not what I want.

I want to calculate the current return value on my investment based on the previous return value. So the graph would show the following:

I've attached the workbook as well as the Excel file with the underlying data (which also includes my calculations using both methods)

Is there a formula that will grab the last available value within a data set?

Hi,

I am working with World Bank data that doesn't have the current year's measurement available for certain data sets. Is there a formula that will return only the last reported/available measurement?

Essentially, I want to be able to display the following results based on the data available in the table:

Euro area: Internet users = 76 | Mobile cellular subscription = 125 | Motor vehicles = 593 | Population = 333,791,352
